SAM ENTERS CIRITH UNGOL : THE LORD OF THE RINGS
I am a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings books and films. What I love most about the story is how Tolkien inspired hope. That no matter how dark the situation or impossible everything might seem there is always hope that things will turn right. Sam for me is the true hero of the these stories because he was the most pure from the mortal races and he never faltered or gave up hope. Galvanised Frodo and those around him to do their best and always try to do the right thing.
I created this image to pay homage to the Lord of the Rings, to Sam, Tolkien but also to remind myself that no matter how hard things get with the pandemic world we live in. There is always hope that life will get better.
I chose this scene where Sam enters Cirith Ungol because he is at his most desperate. He is one hobbit against, what he thinks is, a tower full of orcs to try and save his best friend from certain death. Sam doesn't even believe that he will succeed but he attempts the rescue anyway because it is the right thing to do.
Many hours was spent creating this image all of the towers detail has been drawn by hand using a wacom tablet and photoshop. I left the project for a few weeks and came back to it as I just could not get it to work but then everything clicked and a few hours more and I am very happy with the end result.
